This show was a blast, but was a unique challenge. On day 1 of tech week, the production team was informed that the light board had broken, and would not be fixed in time for rehearsals or opening night. We switched into solution mode; gathering all the remote controlled LEDs, household practicals, and sunset lamps that we could find.
I connected all the fixtures to separate surge protectors. Each surge protector was used for different locations throughout the play. During a transition, the operator would switch on and off different surge protectors that had the designated lights for each scene.
What began as an unexpected challenge turned into a perfect way to practice the ability to think on my feet. This setup was completed in a days time, and the remainder of tech ran smoothly and efficiently. This never could have been completed without the flexibility of the creative team-- it was a beautiful display of teamwork.
